The Good Side of Procrastination

The Good Side of Procrastination
We’ve all been there.
Having that one task that we know we need to do, but we just can’t seem to start it.
You ask, what’s the good side?
Well, the fact that what we couldn’t do in days is done within minutes to hours… lol
We usually put it off until later, and then later, and then later. And before we know it, the deadline stands in front of you as the grim reaper…
And us? Scrambling to get everything done and make it through at the LAST moment.
If you notice, procrastination is actually more common than an iPhone in our hands…
But it’s not always a bad thing. In fact, there are some potential benefits to procrastination.
Being an Optimist
What I love the most about procrastination are the really tight time frames we allot ourselves!
We judge ourselves so capable as if the task was a piece of cake… Until we’re a few hours away from the deadline.
And that’s when the panic starts! The ruckus of building a masterpiece begins. And a slightly under-finished, but feasible product is actually generated!
… Which would definitely not happen if there weren’t any deadlines haunting you.
Now, this overestimation of your capabilities… I love it!
Having that said, imagine how brutal a force we would be if we thought everything the same way. All positive. Uplifting and so capable of ourselves.
Now imagine that force while being…
The Mastermind
Procrastination can give you time to think and plan.
And think and plan, again. And again, till you’ve 7 tasks left to do in the next 3 hours.
But sometimes, the best way to get started is to give yourself more time to think and come up with a solid game plan.
Definitely, it makes much more sense to execute than to just think. But with time-bounded procrastination, you have a dedicated bracket for yourself to think, which is better than a blinded hit-or-miss game often followed by the regret of not putting enough thought into your plan.
Also, without any planning, you’re more likely to get overwhelmed and give up soon.
Let alone…
Creative Solutions
Well yeah. Remember the infamous Bill Gates quote — “I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.”
I don’t know if Bill actually said that. But the crux of the matter is true! And with procrastination, we’re almost the lazy person…
Who is thinking more than doing it… And this is exactly when we come up with creative ways to get stuff done!
Now, there are two ways to go through it, and I guess this depends from person to person…
First, where one gets more thinking time and utilizes it to the best.
Second, where one’s (definitely mine) brain does wonders in the eleventh hour.
And what’s amazing is both ways, procrastination can be a great creative trigger!
With the key to it being…
Balancing It
Procrastination runs in my blood! And sometimes, prolonged thinking even helps me avoid making mistakes. And the calm before the storm, plus the eleventh-hour preparation gives me great ideas.
Other times, procrastination has cost me many opportunities. And this is the side of procrastination that everyone hates and condemns.
And yes, it isn’t good… Trust me!
But if you could have the balance, what’s better?!
One simple way I got to use procrastination was to time-bound it. I’d subtly set a secondary deadline in my mind as a safe line before which I need to get up and take action.
Now the first line is meant to be breached and satisfy my procrastinating brain for doing what it does best. But more importantly, it’s to get my brain in the warm-up mode.
And after this, you SERIOUSLY need to get up and get going!
As Jim Kwik says, now this is the point where you procrastinate procrastinating!
So try it because this technique has helped me so well! And I hope it helps you too. Let me know how it goes though…
So until next week, and being the creative mastermind!

The One Mistake That’s Holding You Back from Success
In times where every second Instagram ad is shouting at your face, claiming to make you a fortune, how and why are most of us not successful?!
The question is valid. For if it weren’t, you wouldn’t be here spending your precious time reading a blog.
Rather, you’d be managing your successful endeavor. And maybe I’d be reaching you with a “Facing difficulties with your business revenue? Let me help you with copy that converts!” advert.
True?
And that copy was just an example. (cringing at my own copy)

So, what’s the issue?
We’re getting there. Hang on!
We all know it, and there’s no doubt that this internet era has a plethora of opportunities to achieve success. So why are you still reading this blog written by a random copy guy on the internet and still searching for your share of successful achievements?
Lack of organized action toward your goal!
Let me explain…
You watch some random video or read some blog towards achieving your goal. You’re now pumped to take action. You start with the next chapter to learn more. And the next one. And the next one!
Two hours later, you’re on the 8th or 9th video of “How to be successful?” or probably drained from reading three to four detailed blogs on the same topic.
Taking in all that information, you now say to yourself. This weekend, I’d sit down, prepare a plan (which is usually ambiguous), and get started.
End result?
You absorbed great knowledgeable pieces of content that can actually change the course of your life.
But how much of it was put into action?!

What actually happens…
By the time the weekend’s there, you already have another plan with friends, a date night, or maybe you call it a Netflix n Chill night.
Or maybe the worse of all — you wake up Monday morning only to realize the weekend went in a jiffy and all you did was nothing!
Sounds relatable?
Well, it did for me until I made the shift. And by no means am I stopping you from attaining specialized knowledge. In fact, I’d encourage you for it!
But that specialized knowledge if not put into action is pointless. The adage “Knowledge is Power” is not all true. It’s potential power. It only becomes power when put into action in the right direction.
Yes, the right direction.
I’ll just leave it there for the direction here. You probably got the gist, but if you’d want to know what underlies the basic surface of what I meant, I’ve talked about this in my previous blog, 4 Simple Steps to Getting Successful at Any Skill.
The compounding effect
The best way to avoid this mistake is to simply start taking action, even if it’s just a small step. Once you start moving, you break the inertia of stagnation. You build momentum! The more you keep going, the closer you’re to your goals.

Even if your tasks seem to be gigantic and overwhelming, these simple tips should help!
- Setting small, achievable goals
Don’t try to do too much at once. Start with small, achievable goals that you know you can reach. This will help you build the confidence and momentum we just talked about. At the least, it’ll get you started.
- Break down large goals into smaller steps
If you have a large goal, break it down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make it seem less daunting and more achievable.
- Take action every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes
The key to success is consistency. Make a commitment to take action every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Talking about success and reading about mistakes, you shouldn’t miss this piece — The Secret to Success I Wish I Knew Earlier.
And yes, I know they sound simple, and it’s because they are! Yet, extremely effective!
Although I’ve linked a few more valuable blogs for you, I’d first recommend getting started, taking action, and then coming back to read more.
If it helps, makes you feel any better, or sparks even the dimmest light of satisfaction in you, I’ll be right here with more such blogs for you. In that case, just make sure you’ve followed me.
Until next week and a few more steps closer to your goals!

$12 Per Month. That’s Where I Started. Funny. Isn’t It?
$12. For the whole month? Yes.
Makes me smile thinking of that phase as I write this. A slow start but it’s been an epic journey so far!
So…
The first question that I myself wanna answer is — Why the hell would I work for such a shitty pay?
The way I look at it, those $12 weren’t my pay. Rather they were just an adrenaline boost to keep going on.
Because…
I knew what I was doing. I knew it added value to businesses.
But what I didn’t know was, how desperately businesses needed a good copy. How good copy could exponentially increase sales? And how good copy can literally build a brand?
In short, I didn’t know the exact value (specificity) I was bringing to the table. And that’s why I was selling myself short. Legit for pennies, but okay 🙂
You don’t learn to swim the moment you enter the pool. And I was just starting off as a noob in the Copywriting ocean. But the necessary catching up was done!
And here’s why I am saying this to you.
Because, even when I knew how I was helping businesses, I wasn’t able to charge clients hefty sums.
Why?
Well, I bet we all face this and that’s why I’m writing this today.
Self-doubt.
That pessimistic self of us that triggers us to think…
Is it alright to charge that much?
Am I actually providing good value?
Am I good enough and capable of it?
Well, it’s natural. Trust me. I mean, forget trusting me. You know that voice in you!
But it’s easy to beat that!
Okay, not sooo easy. But nothing good is easy. Isn’t it? But the results? Worth it!
So, a couple of weeks ago, I was on a coaching call with one of Dan Lok’s copywriters. And if you don’t know, Dan Lok is one of the most successful copywriters in the world.
And he told me about proof of concept. Now this blew my mind.
Because this is very natural and all of us do it, just without realizing it. But just consciously doing it can do wonders.
He said this and it stuck with me…
“A millionaire was never a millionaire when he wanted to be a millionaire. They only became a millionaire because they tried X amount of things. Got a breakthrough. Found proof of concept. Replicated it. And built their business around it!”
HOW AWESOME IS THAT ANALOGY!
It’s legit proof of concept
Without proof of concept, we’re unsure, and our confidence, wavering. But once you do something, you can do it again. And again. And again.
The first million is gonna be tough. But the second, not so much. Third? Comparatively easier. Fourth? Now you’re building a habit. (a great one though)
And the more proof of concept you collect, the more confident you get!
The easier it becomes to charge high prices for your work. Because you now have sound knowledge that your copy/craft works!
Take me for example. I knew I was bringing value. But I had no proof of concept to say I added X amount of revenue to Y’s business. The specificity also matters. But it builds on proof of concept!
The moment I figured out my copy helped make more than 25 grand a month for one of my clients, my value was completely different. The way I charged absolutely changed!
What’s the takeaway from all this?
Document whatever you do, and study people who have proof of concept. That way you build your own share of evidence to charge good sums.
Secondly, no matter $12 per month or even free, START! You’ll never be ready to be a millionaire. Just start, and you’ll figure out the rest on the go.
Last, think of more than what you can do. Remember, you’re never ready for it. But you can absolutely push through and achieve it once you start, but only if you visualize it at first!
That’s it for the $12 I started with. (lol) But if it interests you, here’s something you’d also like — It’s You vs Social Media. And This is How…
Until next week, with proof of concept and lots of confidence, Champ!
